Accessibility Forum

Access to digital information is critical to both professional and personal success. Congress has recognized that citizens must have full access to federal information resources regardless of disabilities and included a section in the Rehabilitation Act of 1978 that directs the federal government to make all electronic and information technology accessible to all. NewVectors, with the assistance of the Advanced Technology Institute and funding from the General Services Administration is developing the Buy Accessible Wizard, a web-based application that guides federal government buyers of electronic and information technology through the requirements of section 508 to ensure that our government is accessible to its citizens. Currently, the Buy Accessible Wizard supports federal buyers in identifying specific provisions of the standard that apply to purchases of commercial off the shelf products. Thus ensuring that every federal dollar spent on electronic and information technology conforms to the desires of Congress in this area.
