Does Everyone
Struggle As Much As We Do? The Role of the Integrated Acquisition Life
Cycle in Program Success
The White Paper was developed by New Vectors for the Program
Managers Summit at
the Ronald Reagan International Trade Center in Washington, D.C. and
sponsored by Federal Computer Week (FCW).
Evaluating the Impact of Electronic
Business Systems: Lessons Learned from Three Cases at the Defense Logistics
Agency
This article synthesizes our experience evaluating three electronic
business (eBusiness) systems in the Defense Logistics Agency. The focus
was on actual impact in real life operational settings. We summarize
our experience in terms of lessons learned and make a case that our
experience can help others do similar evaluation. Lessons learned are
grouped into six categories: metrics and data sources, methodology,
program logic, adaptive systems, realistic expectations, and dependencies
among the previous five. Prepared by Jonathan A. Morell, Ph.D. of NewVectors.
- Developing Lean
Supply Chains: A Guidebook
The application of what has come to be called lean manufacturing is
becoming more and more common in North American industry. Nearly all
such applications have been focused on the internal workings of an individual
site or company. Most companies that have successfully implemented lean
techniques internally have recognized that expanding lean to suppliers
and customers is necessary to get the greatest benefit. Thus the logical
next step to lean is applying it to supply chains as systems. This guidebook
is written for people ready to move to that level.
The guidebook grew out of a fortunate set of discussions among people
from Boeing, NewVectors (formerly Altarum), and Messier-Dowty. Their thoughts about applying
lean approaches across a Boeing supply chain led to the SPANS Supply
Chain Value Stream Management (SCVSM) project which addressed a Boeing
supply chain. The guidebook was that project's primary deliverable.
- Government-Wide Information Technology
(IT) Acquisitions: Increasing Likelihood of Success Through Leadership
and IPT Development
NewVectors published this article on
team development and sustainment. The article can be found in the May
- June 2003 issue of Program Manager magazine. The article describes
a methodology for Integrated Product Team (IPT) support that was developed
by David Haas, James McAlpin and others at NewVectors. The objective is
to address the most common cause of large program failure - lack of
leadership support and stakeholder buy-in.
- Revenue and Financial Margin Life
Cycle Management Project; Management Briefing Seminar 2003: Executive
Panel Discussion
A study prepared for Salion by Jonathan A. Morell of NewVectors and
David J. Andrea of the Center for Automotive Research.
- Computer Assisted Collaboration
in the Automotive Industry: What Are the Complex Problems and How Are
Decisions Made?
Market forces are driving the automotive industry toward shorter design
times, shorter order fulfillment cycles, and fewer labor hours in final
assembly. To cope with these changes, automotive supply chains are becoming
more diverse, and their information environments more complex. Our research
program has been studying how automotive supply chains are adapting
to these realities. Our view is that the most robust, adaptable, and
powerful information exchange systems will prove to be those which combine
automated processing for activities that are routine and predictable,
with transactions that are assisted by information technology, but which
are, ultimately, human activities. Prepared by Jonathan A. Morell, Ph.D.
of NewVectors and Bernard F. Swiecki and David J. Andrea of the
Center for Automotive Research (CAR).
- E-Readiness of the Automotive
Supply Chain - Just How Wired is the Supplier Sector?
Study and paper sponsored by SupplySolution, performed with admirable
collaboration between New Vectors and CAR. Authors: Jonny Morell from NewVectors
and Bernard Swiecki from CAR (2001).
- Entropy and Self-Organization
in Multi-Agent Systems
Accepted paper submitted to the International Conference on Autonomous
Agents 2001 by Van Parunak and Sven Brueckner.
